Upcoming: The 2010 Gala Italia

On Thursday, February 25, 2010, the Italian Wine & Food Institute will host their 25th celebration of food and fashion. Music, a runway show, wine, food, books, and businesses representing Italy will be on display for press and trade representatives from all over the Northeast.

Among various special guests in the Italian fashion world (Simona Ventura) and music scene (Elena Bonelli) will be exhibitions of classic Italian designs (the Fiat 500, Vespas, and bicycles. Is it wrong to think that the vehicle and food sectors will be the most exciting part of the night? Highlights from the tastings will include well-known Italian wines and esteemed Italian restaurants. Importers and producers of fine Italian specialty foods will also be on hand. It’s sure to be a tasty evening, and if it isn’t, it’ll bring me back to my ’06 trip to Italy, during which I consumed some of the worst Italian goods of my life. I don’t know how the “Oh Marge…you couldn’t eat a bad meal in Italy if you tried!” quote came about, because with the exception of a few great meals, my friend and I had terrible luck with the food in that lovely country. Repeatedly.

So, Italy, I know you have a lot to offer. Here’s to second chances and a great night.
